Do I have to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score? Can my TOEFL be waived?

Last Updated: May 21, 2018 11:31AM EDT
A TOEFL or IELTS score is generally required for all international students, regardless of the student's undergraduate language of instruction. You can review our list of countries for which a TOEFL or IELTS score is required.

You are exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS score requirement if you hold (or will hold) a degree from an accredited institution located in the United States of America, Canada (excluding Quebec), United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, or New Zealand.

You do not need to submit any extra documentation to waive your English language requirements.
The Admissions team will manually waive the TOEFL in the application system when we review your application.

You may complete and submit your application before you take the TOEFL or IELTS.

Please instruct ETS to send the official TOEFL score report to us at institution code 3665 (no department code is required).

If you took the IELTS, please arrange to have an official IELTS score report sent to us by courier to:

Northeastern University
360 Huntington Avenue
Graduate School of Engineering
130 Snell Engineering Center
Boston, MA 02115

Please note that IELTs reports are not accepted electronically.
